Exploring Buildings In Hungary: The Abbey Of Zirc (Apátság)

Harry Bennetts

“The arcaded Baroque building of the Cistercian abbey was built by Martin Witwer at the beginning of the 18th century. There is a museum and a heritage library in the building.

The monastery to which the abbey church is directly connected was extended several times and thus construction was finally completed in 1927, some 200 years after it was started. Its Classical style facade was finished in 1854. The Antal Reguly Heritage Library (Reguly Antal Műemlékkönyvtár), and the Bakony Museum of Natural Sciences (Bakonyi Természettudományi Múzeum) can be found here.”
